Entrepreneurial Opportunities in Jaipur

Jaipur is home to some of the most promising entrepreneurial ventures in the country. When we talk about entrepreneurial opportunities in the city, what works in Jaipur’s favour is the availability of good talent, lower cost of living, better quality of life and its proximity to capital city Delhi.
Although the startup eco-system is still evolving in Jaipur, it has everything needed to become a fast-growing startup hub. Indian government plans to develop Jaipur as one of the first 20 smart cities in the country, which is good news for startups in Jaipur.

Organizations Fostering Entrepreneurship

There are a few organizations like TiE, the Entrepreneur’s Organization (EO) Jaipur and AIESEC Jaipur, which have been working on promoting entrepreneurship in the city. These organizations run programs for young students to help them develop entrepreneurial, leadership and other necessary soft skills. These organizations aim to enrich young minds today, to give successful entrepreneurs tomorrow.

Benefits of Launching a Startup in Jaipur

Launching a startup in Jaipur is comparatively advantageous than opening one in metro cities or other developing cities and towns. Firstly, the cost of setting up a startup in Jaipur is much lower than that in Delhi, Mumbai or Bangalore. Jaipur houses several engineering colleges and other reputed institutions, which ensures a good flow of talent. Even people from outside are willing to relocate and work in Jaipur since the city offers them a peaceful, stress-free life (unlike metro cities). Moreover, they don’t have to commute for hours to reach work. For most of them, it only takes 10-15 mins, which gives them more time for life after and before work. People in the city are good and friendly, which helps in bonding and makes work fun! If you open a startup in Jaipur, getting fresh and good-level of talent is no issue. Something that is a bit difficult is to convince senior-level experienced people to join your firm.

Hawa Mahal: The Trademark of Jaipur

This palace resembling the shape of inverted honeycomb structure was built in 1799 primarily to allow the royal ladies to enjoy the hustle and bustle of the street without being noticed by the onlookers. Due to the specific architecture of the palace and the uninterrupted views that it provided, the royal ladies could actually see the clear view of the street life without revealing them to the glare of public. In fact the windows of the palace were provided with designer lattice that not only allowed the birds' eye view of the street scenes but also helped to give a unique look to the entire building from the outside. But the main objective of these windows was to let the royal ladies enjoy the street scene without being noticed.

Who built it?

The credit of building this palace goes to Sawai Pratap Singh of Kachchwaha Rajput Clan. One of the most prominent architects of the era Lal Chand Ustad used best of his artistic skills and architectural excellence to conceptualize and plan the design of the palace.

What was the functional use of the palace?

There are as many as 953 windows that allowed the queens to enjoy the street view without being seen. In fact the customs and traditions of erstwhile Rajputs didn't allow the women to mingle with the local public freely and in case of royal women, even allowing the general public to view the face of princess or queen was out of question. But this secluded life stifled the queen's desires to enjoy the views of their beloved city, Jaipur that was then known as Rajputana. Hence, this palace facilitated them to get the unrestricted views of the street life without being seen by the general populace. The latticed windows of the palace not only helped them to enjoy the unrestricted views of the city life but also helped them to feel the luxuries of open environment as the 953 latticed windows of the palace allowed free inflow of air.

The former king of Jaipur, Late H.H. Maharaja Sawai Bhawani Singh was born to Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II and his first wife, Maharani Marudhar Kanwar Devi Sahiba, the daughter of Maharaja of Jodhpur, on October 22, 1931.
So, how do we remember the late Maharaja Sawai Bhawani Singh ji of Jaipur, who would have turned 85 today, had he not passed away in 2011?
Most Maharajas today are remembered for being born in the royal family and living a life of luxury, for inheriting loads of money and mansions and have absolutely nothing to worry about. But Maharaja Sawai Bhawani Singh of Jaipur was so much more than being just a king of some princely state in India. Let’s get to know these not-so-popular sides or phases of the former maharaja’s life!

1. A Royal to Risk his Life for the Country

Being a Maharaja, he had lots of money and could have easily lived a life of extreme luxury flying abroad or spending exorbitantly. But Sawai Bhawani Singh ji of Jaipur chose to serve the nation and even volunteered for active service in wars.
Bhawani Singh ji led his troops as a young commanding officer of the Parachute Regiment during the Indo-Pak war of 1971 to the war zone in Sindh, Pakistan and also returned being victorious.
It is not common for a royal to risk his life for the country.

2. A Family Man

man
Late HH Sawai Bhawani Singh ji could be seen spending quality time with Her Highness Rajmata Padmini Devi ji and the little Princess Diya Kumari of Jaipur.

3. A Royal to be adorned with the Mahavir Chakra

Bhawani Singh ji duly deserved the Mahavir Chakra, which was awarded to him to celebrate his bravery and heroic exploits. Let me tell you that the Mahavir Chakra is the second highest gallantry award of India.

4. A Mentor who Helped a Thakur Girl Pursue her Singing Career

In Thakur families, good girls didn’t sing. Thakurs were the patrons of music and musicians used to come and sing for them. But this girl in Bhawani Singh ji’s proximity, Rajnigandha Shekhawat, who is today a popular singer known for Sufi-rock, Bollywood, folk and classic singing, had a dream to sing.
Rajasthani
She was giving her parents a tough time finding a suitor groom for marriage as she used to deny all. It was then that Maharaja Sawai Bhawani Singh ji spoke to her about it. She told HH about her dream to become a singer and how staying in Jaipur or marrying would not allow her to do so at the moment. But she was too afraid to speak about this with her father.
On Rajnigandha’s next birthday, Sawai Bhawani Singh ji casually asked her to sing and she was allowed to sing because of His Highness. When she sang ‘Kesariya Balam’ the former Maharaja also recommended her father to let her pursue her dreams.
You would be delighted to know that on October 22, His Highness’ birthday, we celebrate World Singing Day as well.

Stone Mark

Nahargarh Fort stands on the edge of the Aravalli Hills, overlooking the pink city of Jaipur in the Indian state ofRajasthan. The view of the city from the fort is impressive.
Along with Amer Fort and Jaigarh Fort, Nahargarh once formed a strong defence ring for the city. The fort was originally named Sudarshangarh, but it became known as Nahargarh, which means 'abode of tigers'. The popular belief is that Nahar here stands for Nahar Singh Bhomia, whose spirit haunted the place and obstructed construction of the fort. Nahar's spirit was pacified by building a temple in his memory within the fort, which thus became known by his name.
Built mainly in 1734 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, the founder of Jaipur, the fort was constructed as a place of retreat on the summit of the ridge above the city. Walls extended over the surrounding hills, forming fortifications that connected this fort to Jaigarh, the fort above the old capital of Amber. Though the fort never came under attack during the course of its history, it did see some historical events, notably the treaties with the Maratha forces who warred with Jaipur in the 18th century. During the Indian Mutiny of 1857, the Europeans of the region, including the British Resident's wife, were moved to Nahargarh fort by the king of Jaipur, Sawai Ram Singh, for their protection
